Privacy Policy

Achtbaan is a static, informational website with no user accounts and no login, so we collect as little personal data as possible. This policy explains what we handle, why, who else is involved, how long we keep it, and the rights you have under the GDPR and similar laws (including the CCPA).

Data We Collect

• Support messages. If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address, topic and message you submit so we can reply.
• Server logs. Like any website, our hosting keeps standard, short-lived request logs (such as IP address, timestamp and the page requested) to run the site securely.
• Issue reports. If you use the Report an issue form, the type, summary and description you enter, plus your email address if you add one, go to Website Holding so the problem can be checked and fixed.

We do not collect accounts, profiles or passwords (there is no login), and browsing, filtering, sorting and comparing coasters happens entirely in your browser; those choices are never sent to us.

Data Stored on Your Device

A few features save data in your browser's local storage so they still work the next time you visit. This data stays on your device: it is never sent to us and we cannot see it.

• Your ride log (achtbaan:ridden:v1): the names of the coasters you marked as ridden.
• Your bucket list (achtbaan:wishlist:v1): the coasters you added to Want to ride.
• Backup reminder (achtbaan:backup-meta:v1): your ride count at your last backup, so the reminder appears only after 10 new rides.
• Recently viewed (achtbaan:recent:v1): the last few coaster pages you opened, shown above the rankings so you can jump back; Clear removes it.
• Quick search hint (achtbaan-palette-opened): whether you have opened quick search, so the keyboard hint is not shown again.

You can delete all of it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. A backup you make with Back up ride log is an ordinary file saved on your own device.

A list you paste or load under Import rides you logged elsewhere is read in your browser and never sent to us. Share my count puts the names of the coasters you have ridden into the link it creates, after the #, a part of an address that browsers do not send to the website; anyone you give the link to can see that list.

How We Use Your Data

• To read and reply to your support messages and keep a record of the enquiry.
• To operate, secure and troubleshoot the website (server logs).

We never sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not track you across other sites. We use it only for the purposes above, on the legal bases of your consent (when you contact us) and our legitimate interest in running a secure site.

Cookies

Achtbaan sets no cookies of its own and no tracking or advertising cookies. The local storage described above is used only for features you choose to use and is not used to track you. Our network provider, Cloudflare, may set a strictly necessary security cookie to protect the site from abuse.

Third-Party Services

• Website Holding: operator of the site; receives and handles your support messages, and (via @wh/payments) would act as merchant of record for any future paid feature.
• Amazon Web Services (S3 / CloudFront): hosts and serves the static files and keeps short-lived access logs.
• Cloudflare: sits in front of the site as content delivery network and security layer, so your requests (including your IP address) pass through it.
• Google Fonts: the site's typefaces are loaded from Google's font servers, which receive your IP address when your browser downloads them.
• Cloudflare Turnstile: the Report an issue form, embedded from websiteholding.com, uses Turnstile to tell people from bots.

Data Retention

Support messages are kept while we handle your request and for a reasonable period afterwards as a record, then deleted. Server logs are rotated on a short cycle. We keep only what is needed to run the service.

Your Rights

Under the GDPR (and, where applicable, the CCPA) you may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or objection to our use of any personal data you have sent us, for example a support message. To exercise a right, email hello@websiteholding.com or use the contact page. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
