How Achtbaan works

Real coasters, real stats

Every entry is a real-world ride with its actual height, top speed, length, inversions, opening year and manufacturer.

One transparent thrill score

We turn those raw stats into a single 0 to 100 thrill score so you can rank rides head-to-head. Break any coaster's score apart in the Thrill Score Explorer, or read the public formula on the About page.

Filter the world

Narrow by type, country or park, search by name, then sort by thrill, speed, height, length or how new the coaster is.

Compare side by side

Tick any two or more coasters and Achtbaan builds a comparison table, highlighting which ride wins each stat.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fastest roller coaster in the world?

Falcons Flight at Six Flags Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia, opened on 31 December 2025, is reported as the world's fastest roller coaster; its published figures still differ between sources, so it is not in Achtbaan's catalogue yet. Formula Rossa at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, the previous record holder, reaches 240 km/h with a hydraulic launch in under five seconds and is the fastest coaster in the catalogue.

What is the tallest roller coaster?

Falcons Flight at Six Flags Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia, opened on 31 December 2025, is reported as the world's tallest roller coaster. In Achtbaan's catalogue the tallest operating coaster is Top Thrill 2 at Cedar Point, at 130 metres; Kingda Ka (139 metres) held the world record until it closed in November 2024 and was demolished in February 2025.

Which roller coaster has the longest track?

Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spa Land in Japan has the longest track of any full-circuit roller coaster, at 2,479 metres.

How is Achtbaan's thrill score calculated?

The thrill score is a single 0 to 100 number derived only from a coaster's published stats. Speed carries the most weight (40%), then height (28%), inversions (18%) and track length (14%), so any two rides can be ranked head to head.

What is the difference between steel, wooden and hybrid roller coasters?

Steel coasters use tubular steel track for smooth, high-speed and inverting layouts; wooden coasters ride on a laminated wood structure for a rougher, classic feel; hybrid coasters put steel track on a wooden-style structure to combine wooden looks with steel smoothness.

How many roller coasters does Achtbaan rank, and is it free?

Achtbaan ranks 103 of the world's major roller coasters, each with real, sourced stats, and it is completely free with no account. You can filter by type, park and country, sort by thrill score or any stat, compare rides side by side, and track the ones you have ridden, all in your browser.
